How do I get a Library Card?

Temporary library barcodes are available for Longwood Central School District residents who do not already have a library card. Enter your residence information here to begin the process. More about library cards.


How do I view my Library Account?

You can access your library account in the catalog or our webpage.

  • From the webpage: select My Account 
  • Type in the barcode or username
  • Enter your Password on the next line

 From your Library Account you can:

  • View your Requests (holds)
  • View your Reading History (if enabled)
  • Modify your Contact Information
  • View due dates and renew checked out items
  • Change your Password

How do I get a Library Password?

The first time you sign in to your library account, you will need to create a password.

  • Select My Account 
  • Click "Create a Password" and enter the barcode number from the back of your library card.
  • Check your email for a message containing a link to establish or reset your account password.  This link is only active for three hours.
  • Follow that link and enter your barcode number, along with your desired password (twice).  Passwords must be at least 8 characters long, including at least one letter and one number.  Be sure to use letters and numbers only.
  • Click Submit.

What is a Username?

A username can be entered in place of a barcode when logging into your library account or using online library services.  Follow the instructions below to create a username.

  • Log into your Account and click on the "Change your Contact Information" link on the left-hand side your     account screen.
  • Enter an easy to remember username into the field labeled "Username" and click Submit.

How do I find my Library Password?

You will need an email in your patron record to reset your password online.  

Click here to access the Password Reset Request page.

  • Enter your library card barcode or username and click Submit.
  • A message will be sent to the email you have in your patron record. 
  • Access your email and follow the instructions to reset your Password. 

Please note: the link is valid for 3 hours from the time of your request. If you do not receive an email or cannot access your email, please come into the library with your library card.  Please note: We cannot delete your password over the phone but would be happy to help during your next library visit. 


How do I renew my checked out items online?

Library card holders may renew their own materials online. Items can also be renewed by phone by calling (631) 924-6400 ext. 221  To renew items online:

  • Login to your library account
  • Select the materials you want to renew by checking the boxes in the RENEW column and then click the Renew Marked button. If you want to renew everything, click the Renew ALL button.
  • Confirm that you want to renew the items. If your renewals were successful, a new due date will appear in the "STATUS" column.

 Please note: items that are already overdue or on hold for another patron may not be renewed.


What can I do about my holds when I go on vacation?

Suspend your holds by "freezing" them in your Library account. 

  • Select the Requests (holds) link.
  • Select the holds you wish to "freeze" by clicking the box to the right of the title under the “FREEZE” column. Holds unable to be frozen do not display a check box.
  • Select the "Update Holds" button.

Your position on the holds list will resume when you "unfreeze" your holds.


How do I sign up for text alerts?

Receive SMS text message alerts to your cell phone for hold pickups, courtesy notices, and overdue notices.  Opting in is easy. 

  • Log into your Account and click on Change Your Contact Information.
  • Input a cell phone number in the Text Alert box. The number needs to be formatted correctly, xxx-xxx-xxxx
  • Select "Opt In" and "Update"
  • You will receive a confirmation text message after opting in
  • You will need to reply YES to this confirmation

How do I register for a program online?

Self-register for most library programs directly through the program calendarPhone and in person registration is also available.  Please note: Any class that requires a fee or deposit is not currently available for online registration.


How do I reserve library materials?

Most items in the Library's catalog can be reserved and picked up at a location of your choice.  Note: there is a 25 item limit on the number of items you can request on one card.

To place a hold on an item, you need to locate the item in the catalog.

  • Click the “Request” link next to the item you would like to reserve
  • Login using your library barcode (or username) and password
  • Click Submit.

If you have an email in your acccount, you will receive a notice when the item is available otherwise you will receive a phone call.


How do I pay my fines online?

Library fines and fees over $1.00 may be paid online through your Account Payment is made via a secure connection using any Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card.

Fees for overdue materials can sometimes be reduced.  Fees for materials of the same format returned the same day can be reduced to the maximum fee for one item.  Before paying fees online, call the library at (631) 924-6400 and ask to speak with the Circulation Department Head, Tracee Ugenti.

  • Login to your library account
  • Select the amount in unpaid fines and bills
  • Select “PAY ONLINE”
  • Select the fines that you wish to pay, complete all of the relevant information and click submit.

How do I use My Reading History?

My Reading History is a feature that maintains a list of books you have borrowed. You must first "Opt In" to use this feature. Items checked out before opting in will not be recorded. 

Turn on My Reading History:

  • Log in to your Account  
  • Choose the "Reading History" link on the left-hand side of your account
  • Click "Opt In" button.

Your Reading History is a private list that only you have access to.  If you would like to stop recording your checked out items, will have to "Opt Out." You may delete any or all items in the list at any time.  You can also export your list to an email or save it to your computer.


How do I reserve a Museum Pass?

Longwood residents can see the available dates for museum passes and make reservations right from the web.  All you need is your library card number and password. More about Museum Passes.

How do I get a homebound application?

Longwood Public Library provides a special mail delivery service to our homebound patrons.  This service is provided for patrons with a temporary or permanent physical disability that prevents them from coming in to the library; or to those confined at home because of prolonged illness, extended convalescence, or advanced age. Participants will receive their requested items by mail with a postage-paid return mail envelope enclosed.  Come to the reference desk for an application or call Jill at (631) 924-6400 ext 244.
